Abstract:
The first record of ritualized combat behavior between two male Calloselasma rhodostoma (Malayan Pit Viper) was observed in Sakaerat Biosphere Reserve, Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. Although most of the behavior of C. rhodostoma was similar to that recorded for other viperids, an instance of submissive behavior, which to our knowledge, has not been recorded in any snake species. Additional field observations are required to better understand the structure and function of combat behavior in C. rhodostoma.
